Preservative Efficacy Testing (Challenge Test – ISO 11930)
Preservative efficacy evaluation is a regulatory requirement under Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009.
At HD LAB, the Challenge Test is performed according to ISO 11930:2019 – Evaluation of the antimicrobial protection of a cosmetic product.
Test Methodology
The product is artificially inoculated with reference microbial strains:
- Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538)
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 9027)
- Escherichia coli (ATCC 8739)
- Candida albicans (ATCC 10231)
- Aspergillus brasiliensis (ATCC 16404)
Microbial reduction is assessed at 0, 7, 14 and 28 days, according to Acceptance Criteria A and B, evaluating both preservative performance and overall microbiological robustness.
